Christchurch to Receive
Relief Work From Stratford
Stratford District Council Building Inspector, John Richmond will be lending his hands to those affected by the earthquake that struck Canterbury nearly two months ago.
Building inspectors and engineers from outside Canterbury have been called in to assist with checking the buildings and other work involved in repairing the damage caused by the 7.1 magnitude earthquake.
Council Chief Executive, Michael Freeman says, “Council are happy to allow John to travel to Canterbury in aid of those most affected by the disaster”.
“We offered to send staff to assist once resources down there needed a rest, and that time has now come”, Mr Freeman said.
Mr Richmond has had previous training with The Earthquake Commission (EQC) and will attend a further induction course for the first two days in Christchurch before spending three weeks in the field estimating damages.
“I will be estimating the costs of repairing not only buildings, but could be roads, pieces of land, anything that they need help with”, said Mr. Richmond.
All relief workers helping with the Earthquake Commission are on a three week rotation system which Mr Richmond will fit into when he receives a call up expected in the next week.
