VIVA WAITAKERE! marks end of an era
October 29:
Waitakere’s communities have always taken a unique approach to life, and the last official day of Waitakere City will be no different.
From Outrageous Fortune to Narnia; from superyachts to surfboards, Waitakere is planning that on October 31, New Zealand’s first EcoCity will go out with a bang, not a whimper.
With the support of Community Waitakere Charitable Trust, Viva Waitakere! is an event to mark Waitakere City’s passing, celebrate its achievements since its establishment in 1989, and release the City’s spirit to be part of the new Auckland.
‘There’s going to be a great lineup of bands including Mile High and Mandy Patmore,’ says event coordinator Chloe Waretini, ‘and a community marketplace showcasing the west. It just shows what can be done with no budget - people are doing it for the love of Waitakere.’
Place: Henderson Park, adjacent to Corban Estate Arts Centre
Time: 4-8.30pm
Chloe says: ‘All members of the community are invited to participate - bring a picnic, a musical instrument, information about a group or business, or just come and enjoy a special moment in time on a beautiful spring evening.’
