Waitakere goes out with a bang - not a whimper
Waitakere goes out with a bang - not a
whimper
This Sunday afternoon October 31st Henderson Park will come alive as the inaugural Viva Waitakere festival takes over on the last official day of Waitakere City.
Viva Waitakere is a landmark event, created by passionate Westies from the grassroots up, marking the transition to the Auckland Super City on November 1. It is a celebration of all things Waitakere - letting everyone know that although Waitakere City will no longer exist in name, the spirit of the West will live on.
Viva Waitakere is no ordinary festival. It has been put together with no formal funding - it is powered by people's passion for the West. Seven West Auckland acts will take the stage - not for money but for the love of Waitakere - representing the diverse local scene from Titirangi Music Festival stalwarts Electric Car, The Nukes and Mandy Patmore to young up-and-coming acts like the Twitch and Mile High.
Many organisations and businesses such as Community Waitakere, Marketing Works, Mitre 10, Swanson Transport, Waitakere City Council for starters have put up their hands to offer time, services, products and equipment to make the festival happen in the name of sustaining the vibrant, creative, and rebellious spirit of our city.
