Information for Selwyn District property owners
Information for Selwyn District property owners with
suspected land damage
The Earthquake
Commission (EQC) has completed land damage mapping of over
16,500 properties in the areas most affected by the 4
September Canterbury earthquake. 1,515 properties in Selwyn
District (in and around Greenpark and Tai Tapu) have been
included in this mapping.
All properties mapped have been assessed as suffering severe, major, moderate, minor or no apparent land damage.
No Selwyn properties fall under the severe or major land damage categories and 94 Selwyn properties have been assessed as suffering moderate or minor land damage.
At this stage, EQC is focused on contacting and providing information packs to all the owners of properties with either severe or major land damage. Once this process is completed, EQC will begin contacting property owners with moderate or minor land damage – including the 94 Selwyn property owners. The exact timeframe for when EQC will contact these property owners is still being worked through.
It is vitally important that Selwyn property owners that have suffered any land or building damage make a claim to EQC and to their individual insurance company. EQC require a claim be lodged by property owners in order to be able to contact them as part of this process.
EQC claims can be lodged by 4 December 2010 by calling 0800 326 243 or visiting www.eqc.govt.nz.
Selwyn property owners can be confident that there will be options for rebuilding their properties. They should contact their private insurers in the first instance to source information on the process for determining the best solution for remediating, rebuilding or repairing their property.
