Mayor-elect Ray Wallace keeps it local

Hutt City Mayor-elect Ray Wallace is looking forward to the upcoming Council strategic planning session and is making sure this year they stay local.

“Having an opportunity to sit down together as a council and plan our priorities and goals for the year ahead is important and I want to work together with councillors to chart a clear way forward for our city.

“However after campaigning for change and with a clear mandate from voters I want to do things differently and keep the cost of this year’s session to a minimum,” he says.

In past years the two-day session has been held in places such as Martinborough with attendees staying overnight.

“As a responsible Council it’s crucial we don’t waste money on lavish venues and unnecessary expenses, especially when people in our community are still struggling from the recession.

“We will hold this year’s session at a venue in Hutt City to keep expenses down which will also mean there’ll be no need for an overnight stay. It will also mean local business benefits from the planning session,” he says.
