Bringing together young and old

Bringing together young and old

A new intergenerational project involving a number of socially responsible organisations is being launched in Auckland tomorrow.

Days of the Future Past is a radio programme organised by Auckland City Council, the Ministry of Social Development’s Office for Senior Citizens and Ministry of Youth Development, Age Concern Auckland Inc, and Planet FM Community Radio.

The project aims to encourage greater respect and understanding between groups of older and younger people through intergenerational dialogue.

This involves the younger participants interviewing older people about their life experiences and their advice for generations to come – and the older participants in return interviewing the younger people about what it’s like to grow up in today’s world.

The interviews will be recorded and broadcast on Planet FM Community Radio, and archived as pieces of oral local history and knowledge.

Similar projects have shown that bringing young and older people together provides invaluable learning experiences and builds bridges between generations.
