Kiwis Digging Deep For ‘Quake’ Coin

Kiwis are digging deep to raise funds for the New Zealand Red Cross Canterbury quake appeal in bidding on TradeMe for a Rugby World Cup 2011 coin provided by New Zealand Post Group.

TheRugby World Cup 2011 Webb Ellis Cup coins have a recommended retail price of $129, but coin number 2011 had attracted bids topping $2000 as of today. The auction closes at midday tomorrow (Monday 20 September).

The public is being generous in other ways to help the people of Canterbury. A total of $143,000 has been received to date in donations through PostShop Kiwibanks for the Red Cross appeal. New Zealand Post Group has donated a further $50,000.

John Ware, Chief Executive of New Zealand Red Cross, said the support is appreciated

“We are reliant on the goodwill of our most important supporters, such as New Zealand Post Group, to respond effectively to emergencies” he said.

New Zealand Post Group has also provided support to the Red Cross appeal through a Freepost address for donations and provision of postage paid envelopes for mailing receipts. Quake-affected residents are also being offered free mail redirections for two months.
