TRC Committee disappointed with alcohol decision

Transport Committee disappointed with blood alcohol level decision

The Regional Transport Committee is disappointed that the Government has deferred the decision to reduce the blood alcohol level from 85 mg/100ml for adult drivers to 50 mg/100ml.

The Committee had included the recommendation to lower the blood alcohol level in its submission on the Safer Journeys document earlier this year.

At the Committee's meeting in Stratford yesterday (Thursday 9 September) Chairman Roger Maxwell said the Committee believes that the majority of the community have already changed their behaviour and are prepared to see the level drop as a major road safety measure.

The Committee resolved to write to the Minister of Transport to express its view and to send copies of the letter to local MPs.
