Youthline invites Christchurch youth to connect

Youthline invites Christchurch youth to stay connected

Young people in Christchurch can make use of Youthline’s services thanks to a national network of phone and txt counsellors.

“We want young people to know that Youthline is here for them. As families deal with the aftermath of the earthquake and practical considerations, young people may feel the need to be connected,” says Youthline National Spokesperson, Stephen Bell.

Youthline’s Christchurch centre is closed due to the earthquake, but calls and txts from young people are being routed to counsellors at other Youthline offices around Aotearoa.

Helpline and txt services provided by Youthline have received additional contact from people within the Christchurch area anxious about their current situation.

“As young people’s networks through school, places of study and work may not be operating, it is important that they know that there is a way for them to talk about their experiences and worries following the quake,” – says Stephen Bell.
