New Zealand’s Luckiest Name Found By Lotto
New Zealand’s Luckiest Name Found By Lotto
If you are called John you should go and buy a lottery ticket today – because your name is by far the most winning name according to NZ Lotteries’ records.
To coincide with the launch of Lotto’s Father’s Day promotion, NZ Lotteries has gone through all prizes over $100,000 since 2006 to find out the names that have won the most top prizes, and John wins by a landslide with 21.
David takes second spot with 14, Paul is third with 10, and Peter, James, Graham, and Susan share fourth with nine – but others are not so lucky.
Despite being the most popular names for babies last year, Jack (3) and Sophie (1) proved unlucky for some, but third placed baby James has won a whopping nine prizes.
Better to have a surname Williams (6), than a first name William (3), and it’s not quite Mark one – but Mark three in this case. And there’s no love for Aroha, also on nil for now!
NZ Lotteries’ Chief Executive Todd McLeay doesn’t fare much better with just one ‘Todd’ recorded in our system, but he’s not too concerned.
“If you aren't lucky enough to be called John, you could form a syndicate with a more fortunately named friend, and why not invite David and Paul too?
“Lotto’s Father’s Day promotion this year offers ten winners the choice between a Ford Performance Vehicle or a Holden Special Vehicle – a New Zealand-first for us that recognises the friendly rivalry between these popular brands. And you don’t have to be called John to win one!” he says.
The Triple Dip promotion runs from Sunday 22 August, and is drawn on Saturday 4 September.
