Fight Against Graffiti Gets Helping
Hand
Dunedin (Friday, 20 August 2010) - Two
new weapons in the battle against graffiti have been
developed by Keep Dunedin Beautiful, the DCC and Dunedin
Police.
An online reporting system and free graffiti removal kits will be available from next week to those whose properties have been targeted.
The online reporting system will go live at www.dunedin.govt.nz/graffiti-form on Monday 23 August. Users will be asked to fill out a form and attach photos if available and, when sent, the information goes directly to the Police for addition to their files.
Graffiti Education Officer, Nicole Kettings, says, “In order for Police statistics to be accurate, it is essential for victims to report the crime rather than simply cleaning it off. This form allows people to report graffiti vandalism to the Police from the comfort of their own homes.”
The
graffiti removal kits, available free to the public, contain
a spray, a paintbrush, gloves, mask, rags, paint vouchers
and information about graffiti and removal methods. The kit
also contains information about professional graffiti
removal companies for those who do not wish to remove it
themselves.
Ms Kettings says, “Graffiti removal can be
expensive, so we wanted to enable people to be able to look
after their property by providing them with the resources to
do it
themselves.”
