A vote for Shannon Gillies is a vote that counts.
As a recent arrival to Auckland I have had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful people. I had been told before I moved here from Hawke’s Bay at the beginning of the year that all I would meet would be wankers. Well that perception of Auckland is wrong. It’s a lovely place with great people. While I have no doubt that wankers are out there I believe every place in New Zealand would unfortunately have their fair share of wankers. Auckland’s reputation for it is unfair. And because of the unexpected warm welcome I received I will give Aucklanders a chance to have their vote really count for something. In an effort to get people to the polls I will give Aucklanders something obtainable. A vote for Shannon Gillies is a vote for change. If Aucklanders vote me in I will give half my mayoral salary to a charity of the voters’s choice or a street party to welcome in a new era of local body politics. How this would work is once I’m in a second election would be held to find out what Aucklanders wanted. They will be given a choice on a ballot form. They can opt for the charity option and be given the opportunity to choose which one they would like the money to go to or the other option is to have a street party. It will be up to council officials to select a street for the party. This will be done to make sure it would be held in the safest possible place.
