Fireworks finale to be a real crowd
pleaser
The Pelorus Trust Fireshow is set to light up the night sky on Saturday 14 August with one of the Wellington region’s biggest fireworks displays.
With 15 minutes of spectacular pyrotechnics the display will bring the iconic Petone Winter Carnival to a dramatic close and cap off a day of family fun.
Brimstone Pyrotechnics, one of New Zealand’s most respected pyrotechnic specialists, will be coordinating the display and manager Graeme Anderson is promising to put on a show.
“The display at the Petone Winter Carnival is certainly one of the biggest and best that we produce and every year we strive to add something a little different to keep the crowds guessing,” he says.
The fireshow ignites at 7:30pm from Petone Wharf. A heart-pounding soundtrack will be broadcast live on Classic Hits 90FM which will choreograph the bursts of light to musical beats.
The best spots to watch the display are from Petone Foreshore and the surrounding hill suburbs of Khandallah, Newlands, Horokiwi, Korokoro and Maungaraki.
Thousands are expected to turn out after a day spent enjoying the Petone Winter Carnival which includes a polar plunge, fire sculptures, carnival rides, circus workshops and live entertainment.
The Petone Winter Carnival kicks off at 2pm on Saturday 14 August (postponement date Sunday 15 August).
Note to editors:
• We encourage people to arrive early, take public transport if possible, dress warmly and bring a radio and a torch. Carnival-goers are reminded to leave their own fireworks at home and that a liquor ban is in place for the event.
• Boating spectators looking for a good viewing spot are asked to keep 300m away from Petone Wharf, keep their boat speed to a maximum of five knots and ensure they keep sufficient life jackets on board.
