Students’ Business Skills On Show At Trade Fair
Students from across Auckland will show their entrepreneurial skills at an annual business showcase next month – and the public is welcome!
The Auckland Trade Fair, held on Sunday 8 August at ASB Showgrounds, will showcase and sell products and services produced by more than 80 student companies across the city as part of the nationwide Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme (YES).
As well as trading to the public, all stalls are eligible for three Trade Fair awards with North Shore, Manukau and Auckland City Mayors judging the day’s top honours; Mayor Andrew Williams will judge the best customer service award, Mayor Len Brown will judge the best overall stall and Mayor John Banks will judge best service or product.
Enterprise North Shore’s YES regional coordinator Lisa Ford is encouraging the public to check out what’s on offer at Trade Fair and maybe nab some shopping bargains.
“There’s a huge range of products and services that these bright young kids are offering including Christmas decorations, organic slug repellents, reusable coffee sleeves, beaded jewellery, tent cleaning service and much, much more. The ingenuity and professionalism of these student companies will inspire the general public; it’s well worth coming along to see the next generation of business tycoons in action and maybe do some early Christmas shopping!”
YES is a hands-on scheme requiring students to establish and run a business within the school curriculum. It fosters tomorrow’s entrepreneurs, giving them the opportunity to form a company, create a business plan, and produce goods or services to sell. Students learn all aspects of running a business including budgeting, decision making, managing risk, market research, marketing, selling, and annual financial reporting.
Enterprise North Shore, who run the Young Enterprise Scheme in Auckland Central, North Shore and Rodney, is organising the intra-city Trade Fair and is welcoming students companies from its areas and the Manukau and Waitakere regions.
