Wacky winter event at Mission Bay
There is nothing crazier than willingly jumping into the chilled icy waters of Mission Bay right in the middle of winter.
Winter Splash 2010, organised by Auckland City Council, is a fun and free event where those daring enough can brave the chilling waters of Mission Bay for a mid-winter dip on Sunday, 18 July from 11am to 2pm.
This year’s theme calls for people to show up in their favourite superhero costume, so dig out your Spiderman or Superwoman outfit and come along.
There are fantastic prizes for the best-dressed male and female, the bravest and youngest participant, as well as other spot prizes.
Registration starts at 11am, followed by the splash at noon and entertainment until 2pm, including a Zumba demonstration, the ZM Black Thunders and Mr Whippy truck, the NZ Police recruitment truck, a NZ Fire Service display, a sausage sizzle and hot pumpkin soup for a gold coin donation, organised by Variety – The Children's Charity.
Make sure you get there early – the first 100 people to register get a goody bag and go into the draw to win two return tickets to anywhere in New Zealand – a one in 100 chance to win!
This is another great free Auckland City Council event. To find out more about events happening in Auckland, visit www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/events .
