Wellington City hopeful Jack Yan announces new twist to Mayoral campaign

Jack Yan, Wellington City’s leading independent Mayoral candidate for election this year, today announced an invitation to all Wellingtonians to take part in his Mayoral campaign through the website YourWellington.org

“My campaign is a direct response to all of the Wellingtonians I have met and talked with who want a change from the same old political hierarchy that has dominated in Wellington for so many years.

“I believe Wellington is ready for a major transformation that calls for open, entrepreneurial thinking which the City just hasn’t had. I believe I offer that thinking and can lead Wellington into the next decade.

“The people of Wellington want to be listened to, they want innovative next generation leadership and they want to have more of a say in the future shape of the city.

“With the YourWellington.org website I am inviting the myriad professional, working and neighbourhood-based communities of Wellington to take part in my campaign by telling me what they want to see changed in Wellington.

“I will be taking the responses I get and basing my campaign around those responses. By opening my campaign up in this way I am openly asking Wellington citizens what kind of Wellington we can build together.

“I am also doing this because I believe I have a responsibility to provide opportunities for the people of Wellington to engage more fully in the democratic local government voting and campaigning process. Everyone has the right to know they are being included and to have opportunities to voice their opinions and express their support for city-changing ideas."
