New Australasian multisport event for Rotorua
New Australasian multisport event for Rotorua over Queen’s Birthday
ROTORUA 22.06.10: Rotorua is adding a top trans-Tasman multisport event to next year’s line-up of Queen’s Birthday weekend celebrations.
The inaugural 3D Rotorua – the Australasian Multisport Championships 2011-2013 is being held in Rotorua on Sunday 5 June next year.
Rotorua District Council events manager Martin Croft says the city already successfully hosts two major events, Targa Rotorua and Bluesfest, over the long weekend and 3D Rotorua is another reason for locals to stay in town, and for others to visit.
“Rotorua is on a roll with fantastic events to offer locals and visitors during Queen’s Birthday weekend.
“3D Rotorua is expected to attract both national and international participants, injecting an estimated $500,000 into the local economy in its first year alone."
The Australasian championship multisport race will include an 8-10km paddle, 30km mountainbike, and 10-12km trail run for individuals and teams. Lead-up events on the day will include a walk, run, mountainbike, paddle, and duathlon to cater for everyone’s preferred recreational pursuit.
Mr Croft says it’s also great to be able to offer multisport participants the Targa ‘Show and Shine’ car display when they arrive on the Saturday, as well as blues music in many bars and restaurants during their stay.
“The Rotorua Targa includes a public display of more than one hundred vehicles participating in the rally event. It runs in conjunction with free live entertainment on Eat Streat during Bluesfest which celebrates Bay Of Plenty Blues Week.
“Rotorua is increasingly proving to be a popular location for top quality events. With the introduction of trans-Tasman flights, these events are reaching an international audience which not only boosts the local economy, but endorses Rotorua as a favourite holiday destination.”
3D Rotorua – the Australasian Multisport Championships 2011-2013 is supported by Rotorua District Council, Dare 2 Sweat Events Ltd, and New Zealand Multisport Assn.
