Calling all Tall Poppies
The hunt is on again for the Far North’s tall poppies, in this year’s Top Energy Tall Poppy Business Awards.
Set up to recognise and celebrate excellent business practice, the annual Tall Poppy Business Awards are contested throughout the region and have been sponsored by local lines company, Top Energy since 2003.
Entry categories for this year’s Awards include Tourism & Hospitality, Service Industry, Retail, Manufacturing & Primary, Building, Construction & Development, Trusts / Charities & Not-for-profit Organisations and Emerging Business.
Winning a Tall Poppy Business Award offers recipients many tangible rewards, including:
the opportunity to refocus their business’s core strengths and competitive advantage
the discipline to review their organisation’s controls, systems and processes
a chance to foster a unified team culture and reinforce for staff, a sense of pride in their organisation
new levels of enthusiasm and motivation, as they work through the Awards entry process

This year’s Awards will again be judged by a panel of three independent judges; Jacky Stevens (Business Consultant), Maurice Penney (Top Energy Consumer Trust, Deputy Chairman) and Gary Gabbitas (FNDC Economic Development Officer).
Says Russell Shaw, Top Energy CEO, “There’s no doubt it’s been a tough couple of years for many Far North Businesses. But the fact that so many are here and thriving is testament to the skill and tenacity of the people who operate them. This year’s Awards offer a chance for them to get the recognition they deserve and a way for our community to recognise and celebrate outstanding business achievement across our region.”
Entries close 5:00p.m. Friday 23 July 2010. Judging takes place during August and September and Award winners will be announced at the Awards Presentation & Dinner on Saturday, October 2.
