For immediate release: 11 June 2010
The project team responsible for delivering Tauranga’s Harbour Link has been awarded the supreme Public Relations Institute of New Zealand (PRINZ) award for 2010.
Building Harbour Link was a long, complex process involving the expertise of a wide range of professionals. Keeping the community and local businesses informed about the process and what to expect next played an important part in the project’s success.
Jane Nees, Chairperson of the Bay of Plenty Regional Transport Committee said the award recognises that the local community was kept fully informed as the project progressed over three years, including the disruption of driving through a construction zone while Harbour Link was built.
“All the agencies and companies involved in Harbour Link are grateful for the level of community support they received during construction and for the final result – a piece of infrastructure the whole region is proud of,” Mrs Nees said.
National President of PRINZ, Graeme Purches, said the level of community support and cooperation Harbour Link received made it stand-out from the other 50 entrants for this year’s awards.
"The project team worked together extremely well to deliver a first-class programme where businesses and the entire community felt part of the project with a stake in the outcome."
There were 12 categories in the 2010 PRINZ awards. Harbour Link won the Government or Quasi Government category top honour, then went on to take the supreme award. Winning entries reflect sound public relations and communication objectives, demonstrate high standards of performance, production and presentation and represent the pinnacle of communications practice in New Zealand.
