Mayor to present condolence books to Don Stafford’s family

The personal memories of several hundred Rotorua people have been recorded in two special condolence books organised by Mayor Kevin Winters to mark the passing of well known local historian, Don Stafford.

Mayor Winters is to personally present the books on behalf of the Rotorua community to Mr Stafford’s immediate family, at a morning tea function on Friday [10am, 4 June].

The condolence books had earlier been made available for the public to sign at the Rotorua District Council Civic Centre during the week following Mr Stafford’s recent death.

Mayor Winters said local people recorded some wonderful personal tributes and moving condolence messages in the two volumes.

“I’m sure the family will treasure these sentiments about Don as he was clearly loved and respected by so many people throughout our community. The messages reveal some treasured memories of this immensely knowledgeable and distinguished gentleman.

"We lost a great taonga with his passing, but we are fortunate he has left a tremendous legacy behind," said Mayor Winters. “We’re delighted to be able to provide his family with a lasting account of the community’s aroha for him.”
