Recognsing Our Local Champions

Every year, hard working locals are recognised by the district for their contribution to the community and their endless giving. It is no different in 2010.

The Stratford District Council again wishes to recognise citizens of all ages who have made, or who are making, an outstanding contribution to the general well-being of the Stratford district.

“The criteria for nomination are strict, but plenty of nominations for Citizen Awards are received each year, and we expect 2010 will be the same,” Community Development Officer Kate Whareaitu says.

District Mayor Neil Volzke says, “There are so many people in our district who work tirelessly for our community and it is a real privilege to be able to acknowledge some of those people.”

Nomination forms for Citizen Awards are available from the Stratford District Council offices, public library and information Centre. Nominations close Friday 4 June and a presentation ceremony will be held on 14 July. Everyone in the community is welcome to attend.

Mayor Volzke said “I encourage residents to think about people in our community who quietly and efficiently give so much of themselves. This is a perfect opportunity to appropriately acknowledge these people”, he said.

Previous award recipients include: Cliff Johns, Jim Reed, Tom Mason, Jack Breen, Gary Vincent, Carol Kurth, Rex Kilsby, Noel Webby, David West, Gwelfa Burgess, Elva Thomas, Ray Ratu, and Jack Jeffares.
