Winter Food Day Warmth

Winter Food Day Warmth

Food Day Appeal is on Saturday 15 May, and is a great way to show your support for people in need by making a donation to Downtown Community Ministry’s (DCM’s) foodbank.

DCM Outreach worker David Manuel says, “Winter is often a time of great need for many of our people and so its the ideal time for us to replenish our shelves. We’re hoping the appeal this year is as successful as last year and provides us with enough food to last through winter”.

The items most needed are staple food items such as milk powder, toilet paper, tinned vegetables and fish, breakfast spreads, and biscuits for a treat.

“Some people really rely on us for food every week in these tough times, and we don’t want people going away hungry and empty handed”, says David.

DCM volunteers will be at New World Newtown, and New World Metro from 9am on Saturday to collect food and donations from the community. Donations are also accepted online, via our website at www.dcm.org.nz or in person at our office in Lukes Lane.

This is the first of two Food Day Appeals for 2010 to increase foodbank supplies and to raise community awareness of the need for donations and ongoing support. The second appeal is to be held in November, and is also part of the Wellington Coalition of Foodbanks Food Appeals, supported by NewstalkZB.
