Live local music at your library during May

Hutt City Council news release

30 April 2010

Live local music at your library during May

Cue the music. Hutt City’s libraries are celebrating New Zealand music month with a line up of over 20 free performances throughout May from local artists.

Mayor David Ogden encourages everyone to support Hutt’s local talent and perhaps discover something new.

“We’re pleased to give local residents an opportunity to come together to celebrate New Zealand music month in their own community.”

“The libraries team are taking music month up a notch this year. There's something for everyone from calypso reggae to jazz and pacifica beats to folk-rock.”

“More performances are set to spring up at all eight libraries and residents who are keen to contribute their musical talent are invited to get in touch with us.

“Music at the library doesn’t end at live performances and a large CD collection with over 4000 titles. There are also hundreds of music DVDs, sheet music, and online music resources.”

"Library visitors can also use any of the 166 Connect computers as a mini sound studio to record and edit music, and access iTunes to download their favourites," says Mayor Ogden.

Library members who borrow any CD during May will go in to win a five CD pack of the latest New Zealand music and one of eight runner-up CD prize packs.
