Bay Hopper numbers continue to rise

Bay Hopper numbers continue to rise

Tauranga’s Bay Hopper bus patronage has smashed its previous record with 139,469 passenger rides recorded for March 2010.

During March, the service recorded 18,717 more passenger rides than for the previous best month being December 2009 with 120,752 passenger rides.

Environment Bay of Plenty Transport Committee Chairman Andrew von Dadelszen said it was great to see a new record set for passenger rides.

“These latest figures show that more people are turning to convenient and sustainable transport,” said Councillor von Dadelszen. “These are encouraging results for us and show that the service is really settled.”

“We’ve endeavoured to establish a service that’s reliable, convenient and affordable and these latest figures show that the service is meeting those targets.”

“We’re also encouraging more people to get set up with Smartride cards so we’re offering the card to our passengers for free. The $10 cost of purchase will give passengers $10 worth of travel meaning cheaper rides for passengers and time savings as well,” said Councillor von Dadelszen.
