ANZAC Commemorations For Wellington
Members
of the New Zealand Defence Force will support a number of
ceremonies to be held in Wellington to commemorate Anzac Day
on Sunday 25 April.
The Chief of Army, Major General Rhys
Jones will attend the Dawn Service at the Cenotaph at
5.45am, along with Wellington based New Zealand Defence
Force (NZDF) personnel.
At the National War Memorial in Buckle Street NZDF personnel will provide a dawn to dusk vigil ceremony over the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior from 6am to 5pm.
A citizen’s service will be held at the
Wellington Cathedral of St Paul in Hill Street, starting at
9.45am. NZDF will be represented at this service by
Brigadier Tim Gall. This service will be followed by a
wreath-laying ceremony at the Wellington Cenotaph in Lambton
Quay at approximately 10.30am.
The Secretary of Defence,
John McKinnon, Vice Chief of Defence Force, Rear Admiral
Jack Steer, Chief of Army Major General Rhys Jones,
Commodore Pat Williams and Air Commodore Richard Newlands
will attend the National Wreath-laying Ceremony at the
National War Memorial at 10.30am.
A ceremony will also be
held from 1.00pm at the Ataturk Memorial at Tarakena Bay.
Brigadier Kevin Riordan, will represent NZDF. The service
will be conducted by Principal Army Chaplain Lance
Lukin.
