Auckland Needs To Be Ready For The Cup

Manukau Mayor Len Brown has welcomed the announcement that a temporary facility will be constructed on Queens Wharf for the Rugby World Cup.

“Kick off is under one and a half years away. We need to be ready for the influx of visitors to Auckland and host a great event,” says Len Brown.

“Aucklanders are ready to see some progress on the wharf. The new proposal is fit for purpose and will provide the facilities we need without being over the top.

“The addition of a fanzone, facilities for international media and infrastructure for the two cruiseships that will be tied up alongside the wharf is a good idea. It will act as a magnet to bring visitors to downtown Auckland alongside the many exciting events that are being organised around the region.

“The harbour will provide a beautiful backdrop for Auckland to present itself to the world. We need to get on and get our city ready.

“The new Auckland Council will then be in a position to put together a comprehensive vision for the waterfront which includes Queens Wharf, the Wynyard Quarter and Tank Farm, Te Wero bridge, the Marine Events Centre, North Wharf, the finger wharfs and the new harbour crossing.”
