Decision On High Court Costs Released
The High Court decision on the awarding of costs for the judicial review of Environment Bay of Plenty’s decision to relocate its headquarters from Whakatane to Tauranga has been released.
The judicial review decision, which was released about a year ago, found in favour of Environment Bay of Plenty.
However since this decision, Whakatane District Council has lodged an appeal of the High Court decision. The hearing is scheduled to be heard in the Court of Appeal next week.
Environment Bay of Plenty Chief Executive Bill Bayfield said the regional council was clearly focused on the Court of Appeal hearing, which is due to start next Wednesday in Wellington.
“We are anxious to have this matter finally resolved so that there is certainty for our staff and within the region about where our headquarters will be located,” Mr Bayfield said.
“The High Court judicial review is now well in the past for us and the appeal is where we are focussing our energy. In line with this, we do not wish to comment on the awarding of costs.”
