Tasman Rower Arriving In New Zealand On Sunday

Adventurer Shaun Quincey who departed Australia over 50 days ago in a row boat will arrive in New Zealand early on Sunday 13 March and complete a journey over 2000km, second only to his father Colin Quincey, the only other person to have crossed the Tasman Solo.

Aiming for Ahipara on 90 Mile Beach on the North Island of New Zealand, Quincey's support crew are expecting him to land between 6am and Midday (NZ local time) on Sunday 14 March.

Quincey has survived treacherous conditions including a ferocious storm some weeks ago rolling the boat over and trapping Shaun for 15 minutes threatening his life and life long ambition to follow in his fathers footsteps and make the crossing.

Surprisingly and against all odds, Shaun is in high spirits with 54 days of adventure under his belt. His fondest memory to date, rowing into a whale and bringing the boat to sudden halt before a head the size of a combi van surfaced beside Shaun revealing a giant whale. Friends and family are gathering at Ahipara. The town is already buzzing with anticipation as family, supporters and media excitedly follow his live GPS position, trying to determine exactly where Shaun will first hit New Zealand.
