Work Underway on Christchurch's Next Two Bus Priority Routes

Work is progressing well on Christchurch's next two bus priority routes Work on the Colombo St and Queenspark routes got underway earlier this month.

The Colombo St route work started with kerb and channel work at the Dyers Pass Rd end of Colombo St. A new signalised crossing is also being installed near Thorrington School. The first section of work, between Dyers Pass Road and Tennyson St, is expected to be finished by early April, and the entire project will be finished by the end of June 2010.

On the Queenspark bus priority route kerb and channel work has started in the Bealey Ave/Whitmore St end of the route The Queenspark bus priority project is a much smaller project than the Colombo St project, and the entire route is expected to be completed by mid April.

Before the bus lanes become operational signage will be in place along the length of the route indicating the operating times. Drivers are asked to take note of the signs and to follow the new requirements along the bus priority routes. Anyone who breaches the bus priority rules could be fined $150 for driving in a bus lane or be fined $60 and have their car towed if they park in a bus lanes during operational hours.
