Train kites over New Brighton beach this Sunday
Regional kiting
legend Robert Brasington will be flying his train kites,
including the Heart of Darkness series, at Sunday’s Tip
Top Kite Day at New Brighton.
Australian Brasington will showcase his Crane Fan kite, several Gothic Delta kites, Kindness of Strangers, Heart of Darkness, Big Fish and some kinetics from noon until 3pm.
These highly colourful train kites are expected to be one of the highlights of Kite Day, says Julie Adam, the Kite Lady, coordinator of Tip Top Kite Day.
While Kite Day had a taste of Brasington last year when one of his large cell kites was exhibited, Ms Adam says this will be the first time that Christchurch can see the full range of Robert’s genius.
Several new Peter Lynn Show Kites will also be along with other regulars including fliers from the United Kingdom and from around New Zealand.
The New Brighton performances of the World Busker Day will add another colourful dimension to Kite Day.
Ms Adam hopes the weather for Sunday will be fine with an easterly to make it perfect for kiting.
