Title: Drowning - Hutt River, Upper Hutt

A 19 year old female from Upper Hutt has drowned this afternoon in the Moonshine Park area of the Hutt River.

The female could not swim well and got into difficulty in deep water. She was seen by family and other members of the public waving out for help. When they pulled her from the water she was not breathing and resuscitation efforts began.

Attending staff from Police, Fire and Ambulance also tried to revive her but she died at the scene.

Upper Hutt Senior Sergeant Jason McCarthy says there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the female’s drowning. Her name will be released once family and friends have been notified.
