Rescue Chopper Transports Injured Mountain Biker

Westpac Rescue Helicopter transports Injured Mountain Biker from Waikanae

The Wellington Based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to Otaihanga just South of Waikanae today the 11 Jan 2010 at 11:45am to a mountain Biker who had fallen off his bike.

The Helicopter with a Wellington Free Ambulance Helicopter Paramedic on board responded to Otaihanga.

The 43yr old male from Upper Hutt had been out with his family Mountain biking on the Mountain Bike park when he fell off one of the obstacles on the Skills course. He fell approximately 1m off the obstacle onto the ground landing on his head and shoulders. A Wellington Free Paramedic had already responded to the injured man and had stabilised him before the arrival of the helicopter.

After being assessed by the Helicopter Paramedic he was then carried back to the helicopter with the aid of a specialised stretcher carrying device.

The man was transported to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department where he is being treated and assessed.
