Join Kev the kiwi and explore hidden treasures
Join Kev the wandering kiwi on Thursday 14 January as he explores the Gums Loop Track in the Wainuiomata Recreation Area.
The free guided walk – organised by Hutt City Council and Greater Wellington Regional Council is great for all the family and is a lot of fun.
Park ranger Jeremy Paterson says the route is fairly flat and takes walkers through gum trees and old dam construction houses. The loop walk is suitable for mountain buggies and dogs on leads are also welcome.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to explore a hidden gem – it feels like you’re miles from anywhere – and the kids get to meet Kev the wandering kiwi.”
Participants are encouraged to bring a backpack with a waterproof jacket, warm clothes, walking shoes, a sun hat and sunblock, water and a picnic lunch and/or snacks.
When: Thursday 14 January, 10.30am – 12pm.
How to get there: Follow the main road through Wainuiomata, turn left into Moores Valley Rd, turn right into Whitcher Grove and follow road to the recreation area.
Kev the wandering kiwi walks also take place on:
• Thursday 21 January - Poets Park, State
Highway 2, Upper Hutt
• Thursday 28 January –
Korokoro Dam, Belmont Regional Park, Oakleigh Street,
