Discussion on the defence of Onemana, Opoutere and the Hauraki/Coromandel

from the prospecting and mining threat.

"This film evening is supporting an extensive campaign Watchdog has run this summer to inform locals and visitors of the threat to their treasured natural areas", said spokesperson, Denis Tegg. The threats are from the Government review of mining on Conservation land, and the exploration activity being undertaken by Newmont in the Onemana and Opoutere areas just north of Whangamata.

"Watchdog has successfully distributed thousands of flyers to visitors at the Kopu bridge, and at various musical and community events. The feedback and support for our campaign to stop mining on the Coromandel has been overwhelmingly positive, and people are aghast when informed of the Government's and Newmont's plans"
