In a performance transformation that Rodney mayor Penny Webster hopes will be noted by Auckland Super City recruiters, her council’s resource consents team has set a blistering pace in becoming one of the fastest in the region for processing resource consents.
That’s the finding of a Telecommunications Industry Group (TIG) analysis that shows Rodney takes on average just 25 days to process a non-notified RMA application, against the national average of 37 days and a massive 52 days average for councils in the Auckland region.
It represents a turn around from previous years when various surveys found Rodney was one of the slowest in the region.
Mrs Webster attributes the change to good management and a commitment by staff at all levels to embrace a culture of going from “good to great” in terms of customer service.
She says that her small team is setting the benchmark for its bigger neighbours from the south and is clearly putting everybody on notice that Rodney is “on top of its game” and more than ready to compete in the big city.
“Call us the mouse that roared (an allusion to the 1959 Peter Sellers film) but our performance here just before we’re swallowed up by the Super City will be hard for some to digest.”
The Telecommunications Industry Group includes members from Telecom, Vodafone, Vector and Callplus among others.
