Appointment Aims to Keep Greater Auckland Informed

Press Release: Appointment Aims to Keep Greater Auckland Informed

Hon. John Banks, Mayor of Auckland, today announced the appointment of Scott Campbell as his new Media Advisor.

Mr Campbell is currently a political reporter for TV3 in the Press Gallery at Parliament. He is moving to Auckland in January and has been employed by the Mayor to provide media and political advice as part of the campaign for the Mayoralty of the new Auckland Council.

“Mr Campbell is an experienced broadcast journalist who has covered two general election campaigns for TV3 and also spent two weeks in January reporting on the Obama inauguration” Mr Banks said.

“Scott is of Te Arawa descent and is a former old boy of Te Aute College. He is fluent in Te Reo and Spanish and has a keen interest in all sports, aviation and travel. He is young, energetic and will enable me to keep all the communities of Auckland informed about where I am and what I am doing. I have an obligation to be available to residents throughout the Auckland region and having media support to keep people informed is a great way to do this. In this term I have not employed a Council media advisor, in order to save ratepayers money, but I recognise that during the next 10 months there will be an enhanced degree of interest in our activities. Therefore Scott is being employed by my campaign -Team Banksie 2010 - to ensure that the ratepayers are not subsidising my campaign activities”.
