Diamond-encrusted Wearable Trophy for
Nelson’s Got Talent Winner
Local jewellers, Paul
Harris Jewellers of Monaco, will be presenting the winner of
the inauguaral Nelson’s Got Talent competition, which
takes place this week, with a unique handcrafted
award.
Part owner, Kelly Harris says they are making and donating an original handmade piece by Paul Harris.
“We’re really excited about this. Paul is handmaking it from both gold and palladium and it will be encrusted with diamonds,” says Kelly Harris.
She says the design will incorporate the ‘O’ in Opera and the o in BioPaints as it has a lovely leafy design to it, and will be pulled together in the style of a modern koru to be uniquely New Zealand.
“It will be easy to wear as a pendant or a set of cufflinks. We definitely do not want it to look commercial. It’s an exclusive piece of quality jewellery we hope the winner will wear proudly. ”
While the design and initial work on the award has been started, it won’t be completed until the winner is announced and Paul Harris will then make it into either a pendant or cuff-links depending on what the winner would prefer.
The idea for making and donating this special prize began when the Harrises saw a piece on BioPaints supporting Opera in the Park.
“I thought that it was very admirable that they had picked up the sponsorship. So I contacted Kathryn Barlow, the manager at BioPaints and suggested that I would like to contribute by donating some custom made jewellery and between us we agreed that a handmade piece for the Nelsonian chosen to represent Nelson talent was very fitting.”
We feel very proud to be part of this, and our contribution is our way of saying thank you for the huge amount of support we have had from Nelsonians. And we feel like this is an opportunity to give back to our community,” says Kelly Harris.
BioPaints Business Manager Kathryn Barlow says they were thrilled when Paul Harris Jewellers came to them willing to donate such a valuable prize.
“This kind of generosity from local businesses shows that there is a tremendous well of goodwill in our community to support community participation and events.
“Not only will the Nelson’s Got Talent winner be performing up in front of thousands of people at Opera in the Park, they’ll also have something very beautiful to keep as a special memory of the occasion, ,” says Kathryn Barlow.
