Diesel spill on the Rimutaka Hill Road
Location: Wellington Roads District: Wellington
Police are advising motorists travelling the Rimutaka Hill Road to exercise extreme caution due to a diesel spill.
The spill stretches from approximately half way up the Rimutaka Hill Road on the Northern side, and travels south (over the summit) towards the Hutt end of the Rimutakas.
A number of vehicles have spun out due to driving into the spillage and contractors are currently on site trying to clear the road of diesel.
Meanwhile a 10-ton truck has jack-knifed at the intersection of State Highway 58 and Oak Ave. State Highway 58 is the road that travels between Paremata and Pauatahanui.
The road is partially blocked and Police are advising motorists to avoid the area if at all possible - although diversions are in place.
