Ngati Whatua Leader Voices Support for Museum Head
Ngati Whatua leader Naida Glavish has voiced support for the Auckland Museum director, Vanda Vitali in the face of criticism of her performance.
“She has brought the museum to life,” she says.
Naida Glavish says Vanda Vitali has been responsible for some excellent events and shows at the museum and every month it has a full programme of wide ranging and compelling activities.
“On behalf of Ngati Whatua, I would like to endorse her efforts. We as an iwi have been involved in a number of activities at the museum that have been creative, honouring of our people and that bring out culture to life,” she says.
Naida Glavish says the Matariki celebrations at the museum have been a fine example of bringing a contemporary flavour to celebrate Maori arts and culture.
“As an iwi, our dealings with Vanda have been great and I don’t think the public is getting the full picture about her ability, her efforts and the difference she is making for the museum.”
