Plants for Pit Lane

Thirty-five giant planter boxes have a new home in the V8 Pit Lane on Hamilton’s Mill St.

The eco-friendly boxes – made from recycled plastic milk bottles and wood shavings - have been planted with Portuguese Laurel trees.

The planters are part of the landscape mitigation activity undertaken for the V8 Resource Consent.

The 1200-1200mm planters are located on the east and west sections of Pit Lane and sit south of the site’s sculpture Passing Red.

They will provide an attractive backdrop during the ITM 400 Hamilton event, on the weekend of 16-18 April next year.

“The planters are movable and will be placed around the edge of the pit lane site so they will continue to green the area during the event,” V8 project manager Carol Serra said.

The planters compliment “Passing Red” - artist Gaye Jurisich’s public art sculpture which also sits in Pit Lane.

Through the winter, nearly 80 street trees and 65 park trees were planted around the V8 circuit.

A further 25 street trees will be planted in May next year, shortly after the teams pack up and leave Pit Lane after the 2010 racing.

That planting will see the Landscape Mitigation activity completed.
