Elderly Woman Violently Robbed
Elderly Woman Violently Robbed
Christchurch South Police are seeking public assistance to locate a male who robbed an elderly 86 year female in the Barrington Mall car park at approx 9.05 pm on Thursday 3 December last.
At this time the elderly female has just purchased some milk and was about to get back into her car when a male grabbed her handbag from behind.
She tried to hang onto the bag but was thrown to the ground by the force of the male offender ripping the bag away from her.
As a result of this incident she received lacerations to her head, a fractured pelvis and numerous bruises. She was taken by ambulance to Christchurch Public where she was admitted. She is very traumatised by this incident and is expected to remain in hospital for a number of days.
After the offender grabbed the bag he jumped a boundary fence which separates Barrington Park from the Mall car park. He has then run across the park and turned right into a small alleyway that leads into Sugden street
These events were witnesses by the occupants of a nearby car. One of the males in that vehicle chased the offender across the park but he lost the offender prior to Police arrival. The other occupants of the vehicle assisted the victim until medical assistance arrived.
The offender is described as • a Male, Maori, • of very slim build, • approx 6'.2 - 6'3 in height. • wearing a grey sweat top, blue coloured pants possibly jeans and white sneaker type shoes. • he was clean shaven • aged between 20 -30yrs • had long black or brown shoulder length curly hear
Neighbours to the park are asked to keep a look out for the victims hand bag which is described as a navy blue handbag (not shoulder bag) with a silver clasp. The bag is made of shinny material and is one you would expect an elderly female to carry.
I believe the bag is likely to have been thrown into someone's property either in Sudgen st or surrounding streets. If the bag is located or if anyone has information relating to seeing this incident or knowing the offenders whereabouts they are asked to contact Detective Sergeant Ross Tarawhiti on DI 363 2577.
