Hawke's Bay tramper found safe and well

Location: Napier District: National Alerts

A 78-year-old tramper who was reported missing yesterday in northern Hawke's Bay has been found safe and well.

Search and rescue teams began searching the Tutira area yesterday afternoon when the man was reported missing by other members of his tramping group. They were on a day tramp to Lake Opouahi.

Police say the man was found this morning in the area fit and well and apparently unscathed from his overnight stay in the bush. Concerns were raised for his safety as he was only prepared for a day tramp.

Senior Sergeant Dean Goodall said the man had become disorientated and lost his way in the bush. He was an experienced tramper.
