Moana Jackson to Speak at HB Futures Seminar

Returning home to Hawke’s Bay is Moana Jackson, who will be speaking at Hawke’s Bay Regional Council’s Embracing Futures Thinking breakfast seminar on Thursday 3 December.

Moana Jackson is of Ngati Kahangunu and Ngati Porou descent. 

He is a lawyer specialising in Treaty of Waitangi and constitutional issues and is currently the Director of Nga Kaiwhakamarama i Nga Ture (the Māori Legal Service) which he co-founded in 1987.

Mr Jackson has long been at the forefront of Treaty discussions nationally and has also had an international role in indigenous issues and the formation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

As part of the speaker series, Hon Justice Joe Williams was the speaker in May on Treaty settlements and their implications for governance in the region.  Mr Jackson’s talk will further develop this theme and aim to encourage ongoing discussions around this very topical issue.
