Community Outcomes Snapshot09 released

Report measures progress toward Thames-Coromandel District's community goals

A report of the peninsula's progress toward its community outcomes has been released by Thames-Coromandel District Council.

Community Outcomes were developed in 2006 in consultation with the community to create goals and priorities to guide organisations and co-ordinate community resources.

The first three-yearly update report is called Snapshot09.

Thames-Coromandel District Mayor Philippa Barriball says "monitoring our progress enables the community to see how it's going and where it might need to place more emphasis."

Snapshot09 shows that most residents value the special character of the town in which they live and most residents are happy with their quality of life.

The report also highlights potential issues such as climate change, peak summer holiday population and gambling as well as initiatives underway to help manage these issues.

Areas for improvement focus on concerns about ecosystems, the health of the Firth of Thames and changes to the District's natural environment, particularly due to development.

Snapshot09 is now complete and available to view at www.choosingfutures.co.nz and www.tcdc.govt.nz .
