Manukau City Council CEO Leigh Auton received a Distinguished Service Award at a planning industry function last night in Auckland.
The NZ Planning Institute met last night to recognise and celebrate planning’s role in shaping Auckland and to also mark the 60th anniversary of world town planning day.
Mr Auton says he is absolutely delighted and honoured to be recognised in this way by the profession that started and cemented his career over thirty years ago.
“I am very proud to have been part of such a professional and influential industry throughout my career. So much of what I have been involved in over the years has truly shaped not only this city but other projects I have been part of in the greater Auckland region,” says Mr Auton.
Mr Auton was also recognised in April 2008 when he became an inaugural Fellow of the NZ Planning Institute and in 2005 he received an Award of Merit for his service to the profession of planning. Mr Auton was also president of the Institute from 1994-96.
The NZ Planning Institute described Mr Auton as a recipient who more than satisfies both criteria for this award having made a significant contribution over many years to the image and practice of planning and major contributions in the field of planning and to the affairs of the Institute.
