Record numbers for Bay Hopper buses
For immediate release: Thursday 5 November 2009
Tauranga’s Bay Hopper bus patronage has gone up again with a new record of 112,112 passenger rides recorded for the month of October 2009.
Figures demonstrate that passenger numbers have continued to increase for the fourth consecutive month under the new service.
Environment Bay of Plenty Transport Committee Chairman Andrew von Dadelszen said it was great to see a new record set for passenger rides.
“These latest figures show that patronage has increased by 8.7 percent in four months. These are really encouraging results for us and further support the move people are making towards smarter transport options.”
“One of the highlights from these figures is that our three Papamoa routes recorded more than 33,000 passenger rides in October,” Councillor von Dadelszen said.
“The service has also introduced some safe and sustainable options now that summer is upon us with later buses on some routes during the week. This will enable people to socialise after work, or get in some Christmas shopping before taking a bus home from the city as late as 9:50pm,” said Councillor von Dadelszen.
