Operation Peak Road - Investigation Continues
The number of police officers investigating the death of Doctor Graham Robinson on Peak Road, Kaukapakapa, has reached 20 with further staff from across the Waitematä Police District recently being assigned to the enquiry.
Dr. Robinson was seriously injured while cycling on Peak Road Kaukapakapa at about 8.50am on Wednesday 14 October 2009. The vehicle involved in the tragic incident did not stop. Dr. Robinson died the next day in hospital.
Detective Sergeant Scott Armstrong is leading the investigation and he says increasing the numbers of investigators has allowed the many calls from the public to be followed up promptly and for a vehicle elimination phase to commence.
“The vehicle elimination phase involves tracing the owners and drivers of all white Toyota Hilux utility vehicles that frequent the Rodney region.”
“Police are confident that this systematic process will lead to the driver of the vehicle involved in this tragic incident being identified,” he said.
The description of the vehicle is:
•
1980’s or 1990’s White Toyota Hilux Utility:
•
This vehicle had a white or off white canopy:
•
Word – Toyota in black across the rear tray.
“I urge and encourage the owner[s] of such a vehicle who have driven in the Rodney area on the day in question to contact or take their vehicle into, their nearest police station,” said Detective Sergeant Armstrong.
“This will assist with their elimination from this investigation.”
“Police are keeping an open mind on the cause of this incident.”
“A detailed scene examination and thorough analysis of collated information shows that it is conceivable that the driver involved did not intentionally target Dr. Robinson.”
“It is equally conceivable that the driver either temporarily lost control or did not see the deceased until it was too late to avoid him.”
“If this is the case then it is in the driver’s interest to make contact with the investigation team before they make the call. The longer it takes for someone to come forward, the greater the shadow of suspicion falls over them.”
“The investigation team is extremely grateful for the public assistance so far provided to us. It has been vital to the progress of this enquiry,” said Detective Sergeant Scott Armstrong
