EW remains on alert due to heavy rain warning
Environment Waikato’s flood management staff remain on alert due to a heavy rain warning for parts of the Waikato.

Between 2pm yesterday and 8am this morning, some parts of the region received between 20 millimetres and 82 mm of rain, EW said in a situation update as at 8.30am.

The Met Service is warning another 70mm-100mm of rain could fall between 8am today and midnight in an area stretching from Raglan to Mt Taranaki, across to the Kaimanawa Mountains south-east of Taupo, including Mt Tongariro National Park and Taupo.

Today’s dump will come as the region’s river system is already dealing with the after effects of last week’s rain.

That rain last week has also saturated land, making it more prone to surface flooding during any big falls today.

Farmers have been advised to move stock to higher ground if it is felt animals may be at risk.

EW will continue to monitor river levels closely and will issue the public with any relevant advice people need to help avoid or manage flood-related risks.

However, river levels are not currently causing concern.
