Evening Light Fantastic For Hollard Gardens Event

One of Taranaki’s premier heritage properties will celebrate spring – and its own new extended daylight savings hours – with a Twilight Country Fair on Saturday (10 October).

The fair, featuring Taranaki Farmers Markets, live music and refreshments, will run from 4pm to 7pm at Hollard Gardens, Kaponga.

Summer opening hours have been extended to 8pm at the gardens and at Tupare in New Plymouth, the other heritage property owned and administered by the Taranaki Regional Council on behalf of the people of the region.

The Council’s Regional Gardens Manager, Greg Rine, says both properties are at their lush and colourful spring best and the extended opening hours give Taranaki people more opportunities to enjoy them.

“With the barbecue and playground, Hollard Gardens is an ideal venue for summer picnics and family evening activities,” he says. “Come and check it out at the Twilight Country Fair on Saturday.”

The fair will also mark the launch of another family-focused event – the “Not the Biggest Pumpkin Growing Competition”.

Mr Rine says this is aimed at children and aims to step beyond the traditional “grow the biggest pumpkin” contest.

“We have 4000 edible heirloom pumpkin seeds to give away, along with all you need to get your pumpkins started.

“It’s all about getting people growing their own food and will culminate in a Pumpkin Festival in May where we will celebrate everything we can about pumpkins. And there’ll be prizes in lots of fun categories.”

Both Hollard Gardens and Tupare are open daily and entry is free.

Both have a full programme of free public events. For more information, see www.hollardgardens.info and www.tupare.info.
