Council offers new flood alert service

Riverbank car park users can now sign up to get a text alert if the car park is threatened by flooding.

To sign up, people just need to text their name and mobile number to 027 782 3388.

“We’ll record their details in our Readynet database and if the car park is threatened by a rising river, they’ll get a text alert advising them to move their vehicle,” says Paul Nickalls, the Hutt Valley emergency management controller.

The scheme is being promoted on the monthly car park passes and signs are being put in the car park.
